March 4

Allentown AARP Chapter #5415 will meet noon at St. Timothy Church, 140 S. Ott St., Allentown. Ned Bloom from Red Cross will provide a presentation. Non-members and guests are welcome. Bring a non-perishable food item for the Allentown Food Bank. For more information, call 610-437-4265.

The Crazy Quilters Quilt Guild meets 7 p.m. in the lower level meeting room at The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, 3461 S. Cedar Crest Blvd., Emmaus. Speakers Michele McLaughlin and Beth Bacher will present a program called “By the Chimney No More” Women and Quilting from 1865 to 1920, recognizing this centennial year of women’s right to vote. AARP #4150 Lower Macungie monthly meeting noon in the Lower Macungie Library building in the communuity room. The meeting will feature Rick Daugherty, former director of Lehigh Valley Active Life and congressional contender. Bring lunch; coffee and tea will be provided. There will be a discussion regarding relocation to the Upper Milford Township Municipal Building in Zionsville in April, annual dues and the June picnic. March 9

Speaker, Bill Kirk, “Captain Kirk,” CEO and co-founder, Weather Trends International, Inc. makes a whirlwind visit to The League of Women Voters, March Hot Topics Luncheon 11:30 a.m. at the Superior Restaurant in Emmaus. Kirk, who is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the Gulf War refers to himself as the “REAL Captain Kirk” and has promised a very interesting presentation about weather forecasting. The public is welcome to attend the luncheon; the presentation will begin noon and finish 1 p.m. Walk ins are welcome but, to ensure enough buffet lunch prepared, register by March 5 by emailing email@lwvlehighcounty.org or calling 610-432-1456. The event is free but there is a cost for the buffet lunch, payable at the door. Attendees can listen to the speaker without having lunch.

Parkland Art League meeting 7 p.m. at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 6667 Lower Macungie Road, Trexlertown. Artist Dane Tilghman will be the guest demonstrator. Tilghman is one of the premier painters of African American golf art and Negro League Baseball images. Spring bazaar at Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Crafts, attic treasures, a gift basket auction, bake sale and food will be available.

March 19

The Emmaus Historical Society will present a program 7 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Fifth and Main streets, Emmaus. Note this program is on a Thursday due to Lent and the facility availability. The program titled, “The Circus is Coming to the Valley” will be presented by Bob Good who is a collector of circus memorabilia and a circus historian. He will share items from his own collection as well as some history and stories of circuses, some of which came to the Lehigh Valley. All are welcome to attend this free event. Refreshments will be served immediately following the program.

March 21

Bingo at Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Eastern Salisbury Township, 1707 Church Road, Allentown. Doors open 5 p.m.; bingo begins 6 p.m. Cash prizes; refreshments will be available for purchase. For more information, call 610-866-1611.

Free shredder event 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Quakertown Farmers Market, 201 Station Road, Quakertown. Richter Mobile Shredding will be in the north lot, near the Garden Center ready to shred personal documents. Papers should be boxed or bagged and the limit is two large bags or boxes per person. Hivel Und Dahl Preservation Society quarterly meeting will be held 7 p.m. at the Upper Milford Township building. Ann Goda will present a program about Stahl Pottery of Powder Valley and the redware pottery process. If you have any Stahl pottery or other redware pottery, bring along to share with the group. April 18

Upper Milford Township and Emmaus will hold the annual Earth Day cleanup. Registration begins 8:30 a.m. in Emmaus Community Park, 1401 Shimerville Road, Emmaus. Recycling and cleanup efforts begin 9 a.m. Document shredding and electronics recycling will be offered for township and borough residents. Light bulbs and household batteries also will be collected. The Friends of the Macungie Institute fundraiser bingo at Macungie Memorial Park, lower level. The doors open noon and games begin 1 p.m. A light lunch is available for purchase. For more information, call Jane at 610-966-2775.

Emmaus Rotary Club beef-n-beer 6-9 p.m. at The House & Barn in Emmaus, 1449 Chestnut St. Live music will be provided by Dolcetto-Glen Hofmann Trio.
