STUDENT PROFILE - Saleh Abdussalam, LV Academy Charter School Coordinated by Julie Swan

Grade: 12

Family members: I live with my mother and my grandparents.

Favorite subject: My favorite subjects are mathematics and history. I enjoy history, as it is very interesting to learn about the past, and how it has shaped not only the present but how it will shape the future. I enjoy mathematics as it is, in its own way, the application of logic to various problems.

Activities: I am involved in my high school’s chapter of GLSEN’s Sexuality and Gender Acceptance Club (SAGA), as well as the school’s chapter of Spanish National Honour Society (SNHS), and am hoping to get accepted into the school’s charter of the Mu Alpha Theta Maths Honour Society.

Next steps: I intend to attend university, majoring either in a combination of mathematics and history or mathematics and economics, perhaps even with a minor in either Spanish or Arabic.

Career goals: I am hoping that I will be able to find a job that I enjoy doing, in whatever field it may fall under.

Heroes: My heroes are my family, as they have taught me everything that I know and have made me the person I am today.

Hobbies: I enjoy reading, learning new languages and dabbling in creative writing whenever I can.

Volunteer/community work: I have a history of volunteering at the Bethlehem Area Public Library, where I planned events and fundraisers for the library. I have also volunteered at the Kemerer Museum of Fine Arts, where I tidied up the museum and gave tours.

Likes: Spending time with my friends and my family

Dislikes: Chicken and centipedes

Greatest accomplishment (so far): Making it to senior year!

Advice for peers: Hang in there!
