LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

NOTRE DAME HS NEWS by Sydney Gregg

The conclusion of the first semester breathes life back into the students of Notre Dame HS. With the stress of midterms over, students in all grades can finally take a sigh of relief and enjoy all of the things happening on Notre Dame’s campus. The constant stream of basketball games, swim meets and wrestling matches allows for students to showcase their school spirit. Though the boys basketball team lost a tough game against Southern Lehigh, the girls advanced and eventually won the Colonial League championship. The wrestling team also came out on top, winning the Colonial League championship against Saucon Valley in a tough match. With all of the teams heading into districts next week, we wish the best of luck to the athletes competing for a title.

Another fun event that marks the Crusader calendar each year during the month of February is Notre Dame’s very own Mini-THON. Twelve years ago, Notre Dame made history by bringing Min-THON to the Lehigh Valley. Not only has Notre Dame brought THON to this area, the Crusader family also differs from other schools by hosting the only 24-hour dance-a-thon. During Mini-THON, a little over 300 students stand and dance for 24 grueling hours for the Four Diamond Charity, whose mission is to find a cure for pediatric cancer. Starting at nine in the morning on Saturday and finally finishing the next day, students participate in games, line-dancing and Zumba. This year with the help from our dancers and sponsors, Notre Dame raised a total of $114,089.25.

As the third quarter is fast approaching, Notre Dame’s spring schedule is already packed with everything from sports to club events. With open gyms already taking place, each team is hoping for a successful season. In April, the Future Business Leaders of America, known as FBLA,will travel to Hershey and hope for a sweet victory as the students participate in states. Notre Dame’s Key Club will hold Special Olympics in May for the students of Mercy Learning Center. As Notre Dame’s Theatre Company prepares to present the musical Annie, students, teachers and parents should be on the lookout for a great show filled with incredible singing and dancing. With all of these fun events and activities in store for the students, it sure is “A great day to be a Crusader.”
