Two seniors, Isiah Quinones of Liberty HS, and Joel Valencia of Northampton HS competed at The Greater Lehigh Valley Automotive Dealers Association Automotive Technology Competition. They competed against students from Upper Bucks, LCTI, Carbon CTI and MCTI.
Both students participate in the cooperative education program at BAVTS. Isiah is employed by Kelly Automotive Group in Emmaus. Joel is employed by PennDOT - Northampton County.
Isiah and Joel represented Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School and distinguished themselves by placing first. In doing so they won 100 percent paid full ride scholarships to Universal Technical Institute ($45,000-$50,000 value) as well as 50 percent scholarships to Northampton Community College ($4,000 value).
They will be represent BAVTS, GLVADA and Team Subaru at the National Automotive Technology Competition in New York City in April. At the National competition they will be competing against 30-40 schools from all around the U.S.A. and team China. The National competition awards over $3 million in prizes and scholarships to the 30-40 teams.
