During the Feb. 18, Macungie Borough Council meeting a vehicle situation was discussed.

There are two unregistered, uninspected cars sitting near Flower Park in the parking lot. It is not clear whether the cars are on the borough’s portion of the parking lot.

Macungie Borough Manager Robert Glisson is looking into this problem. Included in this is how to deal with them if they are on borough property as there does not appear to be an ordinance that deals with this situation.

In other business, Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong shared information about the upcoming census. Center city Allentown and rural Lehigh County residents are not being accounted for. This means $2,093 per person per year for 10 years is being lost. It is very important to support this by completing the census, according to Armstrong.

Armstrong also noted there are new voting laws in Pennsylvania. Residents can now vote before Election Day by applying for mail-in ballots. This is for people who cannot get to polling stations. A license ID or the last four digits of a Social Security number are needed. This will make voting more accessible and 45,000 mail-in ballots are expected.

A replacement for the black bear at Macungie Institute has been approved. The previous bear was removed due to deterioration.

A decorative bear is still being considered through the Town Beautification committee with another location being decided.

Brookside Country Club has some property that may be considered for development. The present plan is for 95 homes and is just a concept with further consideration.

The rental agreement for the hair salon on Church Street was discussed again. There is a need for structural renovations at the property. This is being investigated.

Yard waste passes are being considered through Lower Macungie Township. There is a $25 fee for yearly passes. An option of going to Emmaus also is available. Emmaus passes are $20 a year.

The rain garden for the easement with Macungie Fire Department was approved. Approval also was given for advertising for a bid for the installation.
