Senior facility seeks liquor license

South Whitehall commissioners granted approval for transfer of a liquor license from an establishment in the City of Allentown to a restaurant at Parkland Manor, a senior living facility at 4636 Crackersport Road.

During the Feb. 5 meeting, Attorney Matthew Andersen, representing applicant Parkland Manor, reported the liquor license became available from the Parkway Bowling Alley which closed.

He said the restaurant, which will have the bar, is a small aspect of the senior housing project located on the site of the former West End Racquetball Club.

Andersen stated the restaurant will provide beer, wine and spirits on the premises but also permits sale of beer to go.

“This is not a typical bar,” Andersen said. “It is predominantly for use of residents and their guests.”

He anticipates hours of operation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday to Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday.

South Whitehall Solicitor Joe Zator said the action at this meeting applied only to transfer of the liquor license.

The applicant still has to follow all procedures outlined in the township ordinances for land development and zoning.

Zator noted the liquor license is for a restaurant and must comply with township regulations for establishments serving food.

Although development of the racquetball property by PA Venture Capital Inc. began some time ago, the most recent phase proposes construction of a four-story, 91,520-square-foot senior living building with 16 studio apartments and 64 one-bedroom units.

The board granted approval to that plan in December 2019.

The restaurant and bar will be situated in the southern portion of the site near Route 22.

“This is for the convenience of residents of this manor.” Andersen stated. “It will make it more marketable to the residents.”
