A farm family finds romance and adventure in Des Moines, Iowa, during 1946 with Moravian Academy’s production of “State Fair,” 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28, 29 and 2 p.m. March 1, Dyer Auditorium, Moravian Academy, 4313 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem Township.

While parents Abel and Melissa Frake look to win blue ribbons, their children Margy and Wayne seek romance on the midway.

Director Jarrod Yuskauskas, Director of Theater Arts, Moravian College, is assisted by choreographer Deena Linn, music director Yvonne Robinson, technical director Rob Riker and orchestra conductor Richard Fanning.

With book by Tom Briggs and Louis Mattioli, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and music by Richard Rodgers, the musical is based on Rodgers and Hammerstein’s 1945 film version of Phil Stong’s novel “State Fair.”

Production numbers include “Our State Fair,” “I Owe Ioway,” “You Never Had It So Good,” “It Might as Well Be Spring” and “Grand Night For Singing.”

The original 1996 Broadway production received two Tony Award nominations. The 1945 film received an Oscar for the song “It Might as Well Be Spring.”
