Judge rules enough evidence to hold Lisa Snyder for trial

Lisa Rachelle Snyder, 37, of the 2400 Block of Route 143, Albany Township will stand trial on charges of murder for the hanging deaths of her two children.

A court criminal docket obtained the morning of the hearing indicated a waiver had been filed on Feb. 11 for her preliminary hearing.

This was the day before the scheduled hearing, meaning her charges and case would be sent directly to Berks County Court.

Despite the “waiver,” Snyder’s preliminary hearing proceeded as planned the following morning and she appeared before Magisterial District Judge Kim L. Bagenstose at 9 a.m. Feb. 12, in the Berks County Courthouse in Reading.

Asked about the filed waiver on Feb. 13, a staff member from Bagenstose’s office told The Press the filing listed on the docket had been provisional, and that no actual waiver had been filed by the defendant.

The docket was updated by the morning of Feb. 13, removing information about the waiver filing and instead confirming the preliminary hearing and listing the case status as closed.

The document also established that all nine charges filed against Snyder - two counts each of first-degree and third-degree murder, two separate charges of felony child endangerment and additional counts of tampering with evidence, cruelty to animals and sexual intercourse with an animal - were held for court.

Her attorney, Dennis George Charles of Allentown, did not immediately return requests for comment.

Snyder was taken into custody Dec. 2 by Pennsylvania State Police for the deaths of her children Brinley L. Snyder, 4, and Connor S. Snyder, 8, who were found unresponsive and hanging in the basement of their home the afternoon of Sept. 23, 2019.

The children were MedEvac’d to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, and admitted, on full life support, to the Pediatric Care Unit where they died three days later on Sept. 26, 2019.

Autopsies ruled their cause of death to be hanging and Lehigh County Coroner Eric Minnich announced Dec. 2, 2019, that the manner of death for Connor and Brinley was homicide.

Additionally, Berks County District Attorney John Adams stated on that day that Snyder had ordered a plastic-coated dog lead the day before her children’s deaths and picked it up the next day. This line was allegedly used in the hanging.

Snyder was also allegedly linked to online searches about performing hangings, carbon monoxide production and poisoning from cars, and the crime series “I (Almost) Got Away With It” in the days before the children’s bodies were found.

Furthermore, Adams added that while Snyder said that Conner was being bullied and had killed himself and his sister, authorities have found no evidence of bullying and have questioned Snyder’s statements.

He also noted that a school bus security video of Conner from the day of the incident showed no signs of distress.

The animal-related charges are related to separate inappropriate relations Snyder allegedly had with the family’s dog, according to authorities.

Snyder’s formal arraignment is tentatively scheduled for 8:30 a.m. March 12 before Judge Paul M. Yatron at the Berks County Courthouse.

She is currently being held at the Berks County Prison without bail.
