On February 20, 2020, The Liberty Bell Museum will hold an opening for their 2020 winter exhibit, “Our Rights and Nothing Else.” The exhibit celebrates the one-hundredth anniversary of women gaining the right to vote in the United States.
The opening will feature guest speaker Phillips Armstrong, the Lehigh County Executive, who will speak to the impact this one-hundred-year-old movement has had on the decades since women’s voting was approved and ratified by legislators.
Phillips Armstrong distinguished himself as an educator in the Whitehall School District, where he taught social studies for more than forty years.
The exhibit is the result of a collaboration between the Liberty Bell Museum and the Lehigh County Chapter of the League of Women Voters. It features artifacts specific to the suffrage movement. These artifacts include sashes, buttons, dresses, hats, and other paraphernalia used and worn by women fighting for the right to vote in the early twentieth century.
“We at the Liberty Bell Museum feel honored to welcome a speaker such as Phillips Armstrong, and we look forward to what he has to say,” said Liberty Bell Museum Director Rev. Josh Knappenberger
Light refreshments will be served.
As this event is presented in conjunction with Downtown Allentown’s monthly 3rd Thursday event (#3RSDAY), admission to the museum is free. Doors will open at 4:30 PM for 3rd Thursday, and the speaker’s presentation will begin promptly at 5:00 PM.
The Liberty Bell Museum is located at historic Zion’s Church at 622 W. Hamilton Street, Allentown. Parking is available on-street or at the Community Parking Deck located at 6th and Walnut Streets.
