Whitehall-Coplay School Board approves field trip requests
At the Feb. 11 Whitehall-Coplay School Board meeting, members approved field trip requests.
Samantha Neas was approved to have the Science Olympiad team travel to and compete in the Science Olympiad competition at Penn State, Wilkes-Barre, March 11, at the cost of one bus, with one school day missed, and to travel to and compete in the Science Olympiad competition at Juniata College, Huntington, April 24-25, at the cost of three school vans, with one school day missed.
The board approved the resignations of Shawn Fronheiser, Whitehall-Coplay School District mechanic helper; Susan Zeravsky, cafeteria monitor at Whitehall-Coplay Middle School; Tifani Jones, bus driver; and Ann Hansen, reading paraeducator at Whitehall-Coplay Middle School.
The board approved the retirements of Kevin Gavalla, math teacher at WCMS, and Kathy Hassick, reading specialist at Gockley Elementary School.
Also approved was the elimination of a bus aide position held by William Brosky, due to a residency change and service no longer needed.
The board approved the appointments of Diane Eraifeg, temporary nurse at Zephyr Elementary School, at the rate of $53,629; Steven Strzyzynski, special education inclusion salaried substitute at Whitehall High School, at the rate of $52,666; and Bethany Yurasits, districtwide speech/language teacher, at $19.15 per hour.
Long-term substitutes Megan Desthers, library science teacher at Gockley Elementary; Samantha Mehalshick, emotional support teacher at Zephyr Elementary; and David McFadden, seventh grade math teacher at WCMS, were all approved at the rate of $150 per day.
The board approved appointments for several coaching positions.
Assistant baseball coaches Jeff Jones, Christopher Saliby, Christopher Schmidt and Ramon Rabeh were approved at $3,954; Michael Saccani was approved as a volunteer coach; and Zachary Winter and Ryan Schmidt were approved at $1,977 each.
The approved assistant softball coaches are Edward Stinner, Kyle Stinner and Jeff Vivian at $3,954; Michael Deutsch and Deanna Stinner as volunteer WHS coaches; and Arthur Getchius, Richard Kern and Richard Gierula as volunteers with the WCMS team.
Track and field assistant coaches are Natalie Schlofer, Nathan Hoenl, Glenn Reightler and James Sebasta at $2,999; Nick Ressler and Dereck Martinez at $1,499.50 each; and Ralph Yeager as a volunteer coach.
The approved assistant boys volleyball coaches are Douglas Barriner and Jeff Brosky at $2,454 and Andrew Fehnel, Sami Barhoum, Thomas Harrison, Alex VanNatten, Angela Christman and Ryan Christman as assistant coaches.
Additional approved coaches are Vincent Santamaria and Carissa Caracio, assistant boys soccer coaches at WCMS, at $2,454 each; Jennifer Bodnar, assistant boys tennis coach, at $2,046; and Rachael Cuti, assistant swimming coach, at $2,999.
The board approved Miranda Dangler as Student Council adviser, with the compensation of $700.
Committee meetings on education/student activities, operations/transportation and finance/personnel will be held 4 p.m. Feb. 24 and March 23.
The next school board meeting will be 7 p.m. March 9.
