LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Q. Who are the members of your family: parents, siblings and pets?

A. I live with my mom Tammy, my dad Art and two younger brothers Tristan and Hayden.

Q. What do you most enjoy about being a senior at Emmaus High School?

A. Starting to reap some of the rewards for my effort in school over the past 12 years, such as my current job where I get to write software for aerospace material testing laboratories.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. Computer science; I have always enjoyed making things and problem solving, and so I’m fascinated by both the practical and theoretical side of the subject. Computers are such a powerful tool with so many applications that there will always be new areas to explore with them.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I’m a National Merit Semifinalist, an AP Scholar with Distinction, a member of National Honor Society, have achieved Principal’s Honor Roll all marking periods at the high school and was the Calculus Student of the Year. I also have a patent on software for a circuit breaker identification system.

Q. What are your favorite extracurricular activities?

A. I’m president of the computer science club and vice president of the mathematics club and compete in competitions with both. I’ve qualified for the ACSL All-Star Contest three times and enjoy doing online competitions like the USA Computing Olympiad as well. I’m leading the hosting of a programming competition at the high school in February. I run cross country and throw javelin in track and field. I enjoy singing in Chorale and Select Choir. I’m a Life Scout in Boy Scouts awaiting my Board of Review for the Eagle Scout rank. I’m also doing ski club this year and like hiking and backpacking as well.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. I plan to attend college for a degree in computer science. I’d especially like to do research in college. Then I plan to get a job somewhere in the field or possibly start my own business.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. Prioritizing and staying focused on many important tasks over the last few months, including college applications, schoolwork, work, my Eagle Scout project and my own personal projects and interests.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. My strong work ethic, relentlessly pursuing things that interest me and teaching others to help them succeed.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. Elon Musk for his genuine desire to make the world a better place, the amazing technological innovations that his companies have produced and his leadership abilities that allow him to make his ambitious visions a reality.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. Take a programming class at the high school; you’ll learn a valuable skill for nearly any profession and to use for fun.
