Northampton Community College

Bryant is April 14 Humanities speaker

John Hope Bryant will be the keynote speaker of Northampton Community College’s Annual Humanities Theme: Empathy and The Entrepreneur, at 7:30 p.m. on April 14 at the Bethlehem Campus’s Arthur L. Spartan Center at the main campus. The event is open to the public and free of charge.

The author is a former presidential advisor; and is the founder, chairman and CEO of Operation HOPE and Bryant Group Ventures. Operation HOPE, a non-profit organization providing financial literacy empowerment and economic education to youth and adults, was founded by Bryant after the 1992 Los Angeles riots.

PCHA Certification beins March 2

A personal care home administrator certification program will be held March 2 through June 22 at the Fowler Family Southside Center, 511 E. Third St.

The program, state Department of Human Services approved, meets Pennsylvania requirements for 100 hours training for certification as a Personal Care Home Administrator for homes with less than eight residents. There are 20 individual modules over a period of 31 evenings. The examination will be held on June 22.

Participants must complete the Department of Human Services orientation class for administrators, either in advance or while taking the individual modules. Penn State Extension

Master Gardner starts March 14

There will be a Penn State Master Gardeners workshop about African Violet plants from 10 a.m. to noon March 14 at Blocker’s Coffeehouse, 309 Front St., Catasauqua. Learn about soil, light and fertilizer requirements, common issues and propagation techniques.

With registration, each participant will be given a Penn State Extension ‘pot’ mug to fill at their own discretion, and a pot, soil and an African violet to take home.
