At the Feb. 6 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, the commissioners presented a proclamation to Larry Lichtenwalner, a 50-year member of the Lower Macungie Fire Department. Lichtenwalner was issued a proclamation for his outstanding years of service.

Fire Chief Dave Nosal gave his annual presentation of the fire department’s activities. These activities include the three stations, Wescosvile, Brandywine and Alburtis. Emergency calls were up by 10 percent from 2018. Total calls were 664 with 96 being EMS calls and 568 for fire. Details of this report can be found on the lowermac.com website.

Staff Sgt. George Heiserman, came to the commissioners meeting, thanking the commissioners for the care packages sent when he was deployed. He presented the commissioners with a plaque with his troop’s gratitude.

During the meeting, commissioners discussed the McNabb family who has provided the township with over 150 years of service in the fire department. Due to the sudden death of Brent McNabb, it was mentioned a park could be re-named in his honor, although other suggestions were made such as a monument. This is an ongoing conversation.

The long-awaited 5G Wireless Distributed Antenna was finally approved. This ordinance has federal mandates that do not allow rejection of this upgrade. Under federal law, usage cannot be denied and an antenna must be aesthetically acceptable to the community.

Twenty-two applicants for the volunteer service earned income tax credit program were approved by the township.

Approval was made for the lot-line adjustment plan for William Deibert and Pamela Borowski. This is Resolution 2020-05. This lot-line adjustment is located at 4801-4915 E. Texas Road.

Lehigh County Children and Youth sent a letter of thanks for the contributed pajamas from area residents.

There was an executive session held regarding litigation.

Church Lane field usage by East Penn School District was discussed and approved for baseball in the spring.

Three individuals were re-appointed to the library board with terms to expire Jan. 31, 2023. These individuals are as follows: George Doughty, Erica Elcock and Jennifer Rogers.
