Bud Cole Memorial Scholarship

Bertsch-Hokendauqua-Catasauqua Watershed Association is offering the Bud Cole Memorial Scholarship to all college-bound high school seniors residing within the boundaries of the watershed, including the Catasauqua Area and Northampton Area school districts.

Interested students should fill out an application and write an essay about the following topic: “Plastic pollution in the ocean is a well-known and growing problem. Microplastics have also been documented in freshwater surface streams and groundwater. Define microplastics. What are the implications of these contaminants for human and animal health?”

The essays should be approximately 750 words and will be judged on content, topic development, grammar and spelling.

First prize is $500, and second prize is $250.

The entries are due March 1.

Applications and essays should be submitted to the school’s guidance office.
