District News: Prom fashion show planned for Feb. 13

Check out the upcoming prom fashion show, planned 7 p.m. Feb. 13 in the auditorium of Northampton Area High School.

Sign-ups for spring sports are taking place now in the NAHS athletic office. Students can sign up for baseball, softball, boys and girls lacrosse, boys tennis, boys and girls track and field and boys volleyball.

When you sign up, pick up an athlete letter and a packet of forms for your physical. If you played a fall and/or winter sport, you do not need another physical, but you still need to fill out section seven, recertification, code of conduct and risk of injury, which must be returned to the athletic office.

Northampton Area School District will be closed Feb. 14 and 17 for the Presidents Day holiday break.

Come out for an all-you-can-eat pancake event 8-10 a.m. Feb. 22 at Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill and Bar, 2109 Motel Drive, Bethlehem. Tickets include pancakes, sausage and a beverage.

Tickets are available in advance and at the door. Tickets purchased in advance must be presented at the door for entry.

The event benefits the NASD band program.

Throughout February, the Community Task Force group will be holding a book drive at all schools in the NASD. Books must be new or in excellent condition.

A collection box is at each school.

The NAHS 2020 yearbook is currently on sale for $75 until March 1. After this date, the price will increase.

If you need an order form, students can stop by the main office or you can order online at sscyearbooks.com.

NASD’s spring 2020 community education classes are open for registration. Classes will be held at Siegfried Elementary School, Northampton Area Middle School and NAHS.

Classes for the spring include lap swim, guitar, water aerobics, country line dancing, quilting, Zumba, self-defense, American Red Cross lifeguarding/first aid/CPR and AED certification and men’s basketball.

Camp Invention is coming back to NASD. Check out the link on the school district website to watch the video and view the flier to learn about this summer’s program.

To celebrate NASD’s fifth year of Camp Invention, the first 40 students to register will be placed into a drawing. The winner of the drawing will get the 2020 camp cost reimbursed.

Online kindergarten registration for the 2020-21 school year began Jan. 15. Visit the NASD website and click on the 2020-21 registration link on the left side of the page. The site will provide you with important information and requirements for kindergarten.

Your child must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1. The website provides you with the health requirements.

If you are unable to register online, call your child’s school for assistance - Northampton Borough Elementary: 610-262-6430; Lehigh Elementary: 610-767-1191; George Wolf Elementary: 610-837-1833; and Moore Elementary: 610-837-1859.

In order to avoid an unlawful absence, don’t forget to fill out an excuse form on the Sapphire portal or send in an excuse with your child within three days of their absence.

All medicine - inhalers, EpiPens or medications of any kind - for students must be delivered to the health room by a parent/guardian.

Medications should not be sent to school with your child. This is for safety reasons.
