FREEDOM NOTES – March madness by Anna Isbell
Both Freedom basketball teams have had a successful season this year. Boys basketball had an overall season score of 15-7; girls ended with a 19-3 record. The girls team lost to Becahi twice and Stroudsburg once. Both of our teams have qualified for EPC’s and have played this past Friday.
The boy’s played against Liberty, away, unfortunately, they lost with a final score of 55-52. The boy’s will not be moving on to the semi-finals. The girls played Northampton at home with a win of 57-50. The game went into overtime with the score being 50-50 in the fourth quarter. It was a close game, Freedom’s aggressive defense and poised offense is what really kept them in the game.
“We played a good team and showed what a disciplined program can accomplish in close games.” said Brenna Ortwein. “We put everything we’ve been working on at practice and throughout our season into this game. Northampton has five scorers on the court at all times, which makes it hard to guard them, they are also pretty relentless, which is tough to match.”
The girls moved on to the semi-finals at the PPL center and played Bethlehem Catholic Tuesday. After EPC’s, both of Freedom’s teams will be headed to districts.
“I am very excited for Becahi and I think that we have a lot of people rooting for us. It is a new environment for everyone and if we want it enough, we have a chance to be very successful.” Ortwein said.
