MACUNGIE BOROUGH COUNCIL
During the Feb. 3 Macungie Borough Council meeting, ACELA Engineering presented a pollution reduction plan.
Macungie presently uses rain gardens such as the Glenwood Basin and Mountain Creek.
There is a proposal to create a rain garden around Cotton Street.
Discussion continued on the replacement of the black bear at Macungie Institute. Council Member Barry Bloch proposed a donated black bear. Another proposal is for a painted bear, composed of Fiberglas. It is durable enough to last 25-30 years and must be sealed every three or so years. This bear would be painted with a mural. William Weiant, a resident and teacher at Eyer Middle School offered to draw up some sketches with his daughter.
The donated black bear was approved to replace the existing bear at Macungie Institute. The multicolored bear concept will be reconsidered at another point.
The Southeast Comprehensive Plan group holds meetings involving many representatives from different municipalities. Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at various locations. Roseann Schleicher and John Yerman have attended these but are looking for additional people. Todd Ruttledge volunteered.
Linda Bieber, who runs a hair salon, gave notice of her resignation and termination of her rental agreement to be effective in May. Sonya Spotts, a hairdresser, has expressed her desire to enter into a rental agreement with the borough at 24 S. Church St. with intentions for this to occur quickly.
Linn Walker was appointed to remain on the planning commission.
The proposed 5G Antenna Ordinance for cellphones is still under consideration. Boxes are to be added to telephone poles to make room for 5G.
An update on the rental inspection ordinance was provided with it reported some landlords have not responded to inspections.
There was discussion on grants available for parks. Some parks in Macungie are just getting grass cut and it may be possible to get some grant money to enhance some playgrounds and include some indoor activities possibly at Macungie Institute.
The town beautification program is having a Sip and Paint Night 7-9 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Out of Our Minds Art Studio. There is a cost to participate. Sign up through email at artclasses@faidley.net.
Also proposed was the idea to have another Chalk the Walk event with a date of June 27 proposed.
The next Macungie Borough Council meeting will be held Feb. 18 due to the Presidents Day holiday.
An executive session was held regarding personnel and land.
