Dr. Matthew Pinsker presents a lecture, “Lincoln’s Greatest Moment: August 23, 1864,” 1 p.m. Feb. 8, Lehigh County Historical Society’s Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum, 432 W. Walnut St., Allentown.
The lecture celebrates the 16th president’s birthday. Slices of Lincoln’s favorite white-almond cake made from Mary Lincoln’s original recipe will be available.
“This is an outstanding program for the whole family to celebrate the life of a great American president,” said Joseph Garrera, executive director of the Museum.
Pinsker will discuss a critical turning point in Lincoln’s 1864 presidential reelection campaign.
Pinsker holds the Brian Pohanka Chair of Civil War History at Dickinson College, Carlisle, Cumberland County.
In addition to his forthcoming book on Abraham Lincoln as a party leader, Pinsker is author of two other books about Lincoln, including “Lincoln’s Sanctuary: Abraham Lincoln and the Soldiers’ Home,” which will be available for purchase and for signing by the author.
