District News: Event for parents, guardians Feb. 6

Parents/guardians of eighth-graders are invited to transition night 6:30 p.m. Feb. 6 in the auditorium of Whitehall-Coplay Middle School.

The course selection process will be presented. An orientation to key features of the high school schedule and how course recommendations are made will be featured, as well as highlights of the high school experience in ultimately preparing students for life beyond the Whitehall-Coplay School District campus.

Jennifer Senavaitis, eighth-grade student counselor, and Heather Hampton, Whitehall High School assistant principal, will provide information for parents/guardians.

Whitehall-Coplay PTO PLUS will hold its valentine book fair bingo 5-8 p.m. Feb. 7 in the cafeteria of WCMS.

WHS Leo Club is sponsoring a winter essentials drive to help support the local community. Members are collecting children’s new/good-condition gloves, hats and scarves until Feb. 10.

Drop off the items in Ms. Paulas’ classroom, C109, by Feb. 10.

The valentine pencil and lollipop sale, organized by WC PTO PLUS, will continue during lunch periods until Feb. 12.

Students can purchase for their favorite valentine or for themselves.

For the Presidents Day holiday, WCSD will be closed Feb. 14 and 17.

WCSD is continuing registration for eligible children for kindergarten for the 2020-21 school year. Your child must be 5 years old before Sept. 1.

Parents/guardians must access and complete the online registration by visiting whitehallcoplay.org. Select a date and time to meet with Michelle Khouri, district registrar, to present all the required documentation, which is available to view on the website.

Parents/guardians will be given an appointment to bring their child to meet with the guidance counselor, principal, school nurse, ESOL teacher and reading specialist for a brief assessment at Gockley Elementary School April 20, 21 and 22.

Deadline to register kindergarten students online is March 27.

Tutoring at Zephyr Elementary School is available.

If you are interested in tutoring for your child, visit the school website and follow the link to Zephyr Elementary. There you will find the list of teachers to tutor.

Schedules and fees will be negotiated with the tutor.

Any child approved for free or reduced-priced lunches will receive the daily meal and beverage. Additional items, such as fish crackers, carrots and dip and popcorn, are not included.

Parents/guardians may deposit funds into their child’s account if their child would like to purchase these additional items.

Students may also purchase breakfast by going directly to the cafeteria from their morning bus. For breakfast, Pop-Tarts or cereal is $1.60 for full price or 30 cents for reduced price.

Children should let their teacher know whether they are having lunch or packing lunch.

Lunch information for parents is available at myschoolbucks. There is also an app to download to get convenient access to meal balances, purchases and to make payments right from your phone.
