District duals to begin this week

The District 11 wrestling tournaments kick off this week with Thursday’s 3A action taking place at Liberty and Northampton.

Top-seeded Nazareth will wrestle at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night at Northampton against the winner of the eight-nine matchup between Easton and Emmaus. At the bottom of the bracket, second-seeded Northampton will kick off at the same time as Nazareth, where they’ll meet the winner of seventh-seeded Stroudsburg and tenth-seeded Blue Mountain.

At Liberty, Bethlehem Catholic comes in as the third seed and it’ll take on the winner of the six-11 matchup between Freedom and Whitehall at 7:30 p.m.

Fourth-seeded Pottsville will be at Northampton, where they’ll battle either fifth-seeded Liberty or 12th-seeded East Stroudsburg South.

Semifinal action moves to Freedom on Saturday morning at 10:45 a.m. with the championship match set for 5:30 p.m. Should a true second-place match need to be wrestled, that’ll occur at 7:30 p.m.

In 2A, Liberty and Northern Lehigh are the host sites.

Top-seeded Saucon Valley will be wrestling at Liberty at 7:30 p.m. Thursday against either eighth-seeded Northwestern or ninth-seeded Pen Argyl.

Second-seeded Notre Dame-GP will also be at Liberty and they’ll face off against either seventh-seeded Jim Thorpe or 10th-seeded Catty.

At Northern Lehigh, third-seeded Wilson will meet the winner of sixth-seeded Tamaqua and 11-seeded Pine Grove.

Fourth-seeded North Schuylkill will also be at Northern Lehigh, where they get the winner of the five-12 matchup between Mahanoy Area and Palisades.

The 2A schedule for Saturday at Freedom will run with semis at 10:45 a.m. and finals at 5:30 p.m.

A true second place, if necessary, would be at 7:30 p.m.
