January is School Director Recognition Month in Pennsylvania, and the district did not disappoint during the Jan. 14 school board meeting.

Each of the three schools in the district prepared a presentation as a way to thank the directors. The presentations were largely created by the students to acknowledge the advantages and opportunities school board members help provide.

Sheckler Elementary School Principal Eric Dauberman presented each school board member a baked good, courtesy of the school’s baking club. According to Dauberman, the baking club is one of the favorite additional clubs offered at the elementary school level.

He also gave each director a 3-D printed magnet with a variety of designs, created by the students.

To finish, Dauberman showed a video of students in their classes using their iPads. Several students in the video spoke out about why exactly they enjoy using their new iPads, which were approved by the school board.

Catasauqua Middle School Principal Melissa Inselmann informed school board members each grade prepared its own way of saying thank you. In fifth grade, students made a giant card that was passed around for the directors to read. They were also presented chocolates by several fifth-grade students.

Sixth-grade students created large, colorful paper flower bouquets for each director. A handful of sixth-grade students were present to give them out.

Seventh-graders created a video sharing their thanks. The video centered around the alphabet and pictured students expressing thanks for something representing each letter of the alphabet.

The video created by eighth-grade students pictured the school board members as superheroes who work behind the scenes to make things happen.

The CMS life skills class wanted to share its thanks as well. One of the aides and a student attended to hand out a little gift for each director.

Kimmie Miller, art teacher, had several of her students design clocks and used a laser engraver to bring those clocks to life. The students who designed the clocks were present at the meeting to give one to each director.

Catasauqua High School Principal Adam Schnug presented a video created by the school’s TV Production Club, which showed students, faculty and staff thanking the directors for all they do.

Superintendent Robert Spengler thanked the school board directors for making such positive decisions and choices for the district.

“Thank you for providing for our students,” he said.

He also noted how proud he was to work with a group of people who care so much about the students.

“I wouldn’t want to be superintendent in any other district,” he said. “This is the place to be.”

Many of the school board members expressed their heartfelt thanks to the administration and students for their kind words and gifts. They were humbled by the outpouring of appreciation sent their way.

School director Duane Dietrich spoke how the board, administration, faculty, students and families all work together to make the district such a wonderful place to be.

“We are a team,” he noted, adding each person in the district is important and necessary to keeping everything running smoothly and contributes to the advances being made in the district.
