Lowhill readies for 2020

Lowhill Township supervisors met for their annual reorganization meeting Jan. 6.

Among several employee motions, they announced employee changes and meetings times for 2020.

The meeting began with Supervisor Buddy Wessner making a motion to have Richard Hughes continue as board chairman. Robb Werley seconded the motion.

Hughes made a motion to have Wessner continue as board vice chairman and Jill Seymour continue as secretary.

Werley seconded both of them.

Hughes then made a motion to appoint Werley continue as a township supervisor and treasurer. Wessner seconded the motion.

Hughes also made a motion to have Joe Kalusky continue as road foreman. Wessner seconded it.

Jeff Hontz will serve as assistant road foreman and Hontz, Tim Wessner and Mike Hontz are the road crew members.

Glen Grim is a part-time road crew member.

Janet Henritzy will serve as secretary and permit applicator, recording secretary for the planning commission and alternate administrator.

Seymour will also serve as an alternate recording secretary for the planning commission and the open records officer.

Brian Carl was named as the township’s zoning officer, alternate sewage enforcement officer, township administrator, advisory board member for Lehigh County Authority and a Northern Lehigh Planning Commission member.

Werley was also appointed chief administrator for the pension plan and a representative to the Weisenberg Lowhill Historical Society.

Hughes will be the Act 43 Agricultural Security Board member, the representative to the Northwestern Recreation Commission and the voting delegate for the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors’ convention in Hershey.

Along with being the vice chairman, Wessner will be the Northwestern Recreation Commission alternate.

Township solicitor for 2020 will be Steckel and Stopp with Attorney Charles Waters representing the Slatington law firm at board meetings.

The zoning board and UCC board solicitor will be the law firm of Fitzpatrick, Lentz and Bubba. Emil Kantra II will be the firm’s representative.

Ryan Christman from Keystone Consulting Engineers, Wescosville, will serve as the township engineer.

Keystone Consulting Engineers will also be the alternate zoning officer, health board official, sewage enforcement officer and the health officer.

Barry Isett and Associates will be responsible for the inspection firm and code enforcement.

Frank Bartholomew will be the emergency management coordinator and Carol Betz continues as tax collector. She will also serve as the vacancy board chairwoman.

Phyllis Breininger will be the deputy tax collector. Earned income tax will go through Berkheimer and Associates.

The following are the new appointments for 2020.

Phyllis LaFollette and Luke Miller will serve on the planning commission.

Terry Naugle will serve on the zoning hearing board and Charles Bashore serve on the UCC Board of Appeals.

Supervisors will meet 7:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month.

The planning commission will meet 7 p.m. on the last Monday of every month.

The May planning commission meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on May 26.

Zoning hearing board meetings will be 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month.

The UCC Board of Appeals will meet as needed.

Following the reorganization meeting, the board met for its regular monthly meeting.
