Members of the Lower Lehigh Lions Club, of Macungie, finished the holiday season by once again completing their Helping Hands project.
Each year, Lower Lehigh Lions distribute over $6,000 in Weis Markets gift cards to families in need in the Macungie area to help put food on the table for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.
“Helping Hands is one of our members’ favorite projects because it’s also one of our most beneficial projects to our local families,” Lion Ron Bechtel said. With Lion Bud Godshalk, Bechtel co-chairs the Helping Hands program.
The Lions distribute 50 $125 gift cards – 25 at Thanksgiving and 25 at Christmas – to selected families.
“Most people do not realize that there are families in need right here in our own community,” Bechtel said. “Some of them may have to make the choice of paying a bill versus buying food. All of them are very appreciative of the assistance.”
