MUHLENBERG COLLEGE:

A lecture series, “A Century of Struggle: Women’s Rights Before and After Suffrage,” begins with “Images and the Fight for Women’s Voting Rights in the United States,” presented by Allison Lange, Assistant Professor of History at Wentworth Institute of Technology, 7 p.m. Jan. 23, A-Level, Trexler Memorial Library, Muhlenberg College, Allentown.

The series marks the 100th anniversary of the ratification and adoption of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution, which prohibits states and the federal government from denying the right to vote to citizens of the United States on the basis of sex.

The series continues at 7 p.m. Feb. 11, “Raising Our Banners: Women of Color Challenge the Mainstream Suffrage Movement”; 7 p.m. March 18, “Votes (and Birth Control?) for Women: The Suffrage and Birth Control Movements After 1915,” and “Healing the Body Politic: Women Physicians and the Fight for Suffrage,” April 6.

An exhibit, “Women & Women’s Rights at Muhlenberg,” opens Jan. 23 and continues through April, Rare Books Room.
