With their win against Pocono Mountain East last week, the Whitehall girls basketball team looks to make one final push toward the playoffs in their remaining six games.

Heading into Tuesday’s game against Northampton, the Zephyrs are 6-10. The game against the Kids represents the first five games against Skyline Division opponents, the lone exception a meeting with Hazelton Area High School on Jan. 25.

It will be a tough hill to climb considering every one of those teams division teams except Emmaus sits above them in the standings. Still, they will use the momentum provided by their 44-29 win over the Cardinals to see if they can claim a playoff berth in the following three weeks.

In last week’s win over PME, they received balanced scoring as seven players hit the stat sheet. They were led by Grace Clary who finished with 17 points. Both Meghan Hutter and Olivia Hines had eight points in the win, while Cassie Due netted five.

Additionally, Katie Kelly had three points in the game, while Kristen Laky had two, and Rachel Ganser finished with a point.

Head coach Josh Madas liked the way his team competed, turning it on in the final two quarters to seal the victory.

“We were really happy with the effort and execution in the second half versus Pocono Mountain East in the second half,” said Madas. “The girls really played hard and earned the win.”

In their first meeting, the Kids beat the Zephs by 18 points. The Kids are currently 13-3 and occupy the third spot in the division (3-2) behind Nazareth and Parkland. They’ve also clinched a playoff spot, and are currently riding a six-game winning streak.

The Zephyrs are 1-4 in the division. Madas knows that every opponent within the division represents a challenge.

“Our divisional games are always tough,” said Madas. “We are excited about the challenge.

“Making districts has remained the goal all year. We played all the division teams tough the first time around and want to build on that down the stretch.”
