North Whitehall residents question warehouse plans

After reorganization was completed on Jan. 6, North Whitehall supervisors continued with their regular meeting.

The board gave final approval for the Fairland Farms III major subdivision, which is proposed to be constructed along Pine Street.

In addition, supervisors also approved land development and lot consolidation plans, as well as waiver requests, for the North Valley Trade Center’s planned warehouse distribution facilities, to be constructed between Route 309 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Schnecksville.

Before the warehousing was approved, residents raised questions about nearby truck parking, planned improvements for local roads to accommodate increased vehicle traffic, concerns about increasingly congested traffic on Route 309 and side roads, and overall costs for additional road construction.

Representatives from the developer, Trammell Crow Company, and other consultant firms said they understood residents’ feedback and would take it into consideration.

The board also voted to table a request from Lehigh County and the Jordan Creek Greenway project to purchase approximately 1 acre of residential property along Jordan Road for open space and trail usage.

Township Solicitor Lisa Young said the legal and engineering escrow had not yet been established, and supervisors voted to revisit the proposal during the February supervisors’ meeting.

Additionally, two resolutions were adopted during the regular meeting. The first amends and revises the township’s 2020 fee schedule for services, equipment, goods and materials furnished by the township. The second reaffirmed the lease purchase of a Bobcat skid steer loader.

The next scheduled supervisors’ meeting will be 7:30 p.m. Feb. 3.
