EMMAUS COLUMN

Now in its 14th year, the SnowBlast Winter Arts Festival, hosted by the Emmaus Arts Commission, is being held noon to 5 p.m. Feb. 1.

Activities take place at Triangle Park and various venues throughout town, including stores and restaurants.

The SnowBlast festival creates a wonderful opportunity for the community to enjoy this beautiful time of the year.

The event features local artist demonstrations throughout the town, the SnowBlast Community Art Project, an annual photo contest, live music, a palette walk scavenger hunt, live ice sculpting, a performance by the ice princess and family art activities. The Emmaus Main Street Partners will sell alcoholic beverages during the event. Visit the staff on or around the Triangle.

Many stores will host art demonstrations and offer special activities to warm folks coming in from the cold. Local restaurants will provide a “SnowBlast Chill Chaser” drink and food specials.

The Emmaus Historical Society will participate in SnowBlast activities. The museum, 218 Main St., will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Stop in and see the seasonal displays and the famous train putz. Local artist Bob Boehmer will paint a new piece 1 to 4 p.m.

The Emmaus Public Library, 11 E. Main St., will present a special storytime with the Ice Princess 11 a.m., crafts 11:30 a.m. and a free screening of “Abominable,” 2 p.m. Feb. 1 during the SnowBlast Festival.

Emmaus Borough Council meets 7 p.m. Feb. 3 and 18. Please note the meeting Feb. 18 is a Tuesday due to the Feb. 17 holiday. The offices are closed Feb. 17. For information, visit borough.emmaus.pa.us or call 610-965-9292.

Zumba is held 9 a.m. every Saturday at Faith Presbyterian Church, N. Second and Cherokee streets.

The Emmaus Historical Society will hold its February meeting 7 p.m. Feb. 19 at St. John’s Lutheran Church parish hall, Fifth and Chestnut streets. The program, “Pieces of Time – A History and Display of American Quilts and Textiles,” presented by Kitty Pherson, will include information on quilts, cross-stitch and needlepoint. Members and non-members are welcome to attend.

Mark your calendars and call Nancy at 610-967-5715 to reserve your seat for the first bus trip of 2020 April 7, “Sherlock Holmes Returns,” an all new immersive musical comedy at Hunterdon. The ticket includes lunch. Deadline for signing up is Feb. 22.

The Emmaus Historical Society is now collecting items for its fundraiser yard sale in 2020. Please keep the society in mind as you clean out your house or for any leftover yard sale items from previous sales. Donations can be dropped off 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. any Saturday at the museum. Donated items will be accepted until early May. Clothing, large electronics and upholstered furniture are not accepted.

The Emmaus Senior Citizens group regularly meets 1 p.m. the first and second Fridays of the month at St. Matthews E.C. Church, Fifth and Ridge streets. All local senior citizens are welcome. On Feb. 7, the group will not meet at the church but will be going out to eat. On Feb. 14, the group will play bingo at the church. For information, call 610-966-4273.

The Pinterest Party at the Emmaus Public Library for adults and families will be held 7 p.m. Feb. 3. The group will be making a heart tote to take home. Supplies are provided for the first 30 participants.

The Art @ EPL program for February is Impressionism with artist, sculptor and designer Aryn Cole. Coyle’s lecture will be 3 to 4 p.m. Feb. 8. Cole’s workshops on Impressionism and painting in color are 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 10 and 17. Please RSVP for the workshops. Barbara J. Morgan, Lehigh County Humane Society police officer, will read from her book “Gummy and the Ferret!” 11 a.m. Feb. 17 in the children’s wing of the library.

In February, the Woman’s Club of Emmaus will celebrate its 80th year as an organization serving the Emmaus community. It was February 1940, that the Woman’s Club of Emmaus was founded with its president, Mary Deischer. The next meeting of the club will be 7 p.m. March 23 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 501 Chestnut St. The public is welcome. The program will be a celebration of the accomplishments of the eight Girls of the Month chosen by Emmaus High School departments. The Woman’s Club of Emmaus has celebrated Girls of the Month since 1953.

The Knauss Homestead Preservation Society has an ongoing capital fund drive to repaint the historical Knauss house. Please consider helping in this endeavor by donating to the society’s effort. The purpose of the society shall be to fervently protect and preserve the historical integrity of the Knauss Homestead. Checks can be mailed to KHPS, P.O. Box 714, Emmaus, 18049. The property is located at 152 E. Mark your calendar: The Emmaus Main Street Partners and the Emmaus Historical Society will sponsor the popular Lucky Bucks Bingo March 15 at St. John’s Lutheran Church parish hall. Tickets will be available Feb. 1 and can be purchased at David’s Electric, Emmaus Jewel Shop and Laura’s Custom Frame Shop. The society will have tickets available Saturdays at the museum and at the Feb. 19 program.
