For anyone struggling to manage diabetes, The Penn State Extension “Dining with Diabetes” program could be what you are looking for.

The class will be held at the Lehigh County Agricultural Center, 4184 Dorney Park Road, South Whitehall, from 10 a.m. to noon March 4, 11, 18 and April 1 and 8.

A follow-up session will be on June 3.

This nationally accredited program is for adults with Type 2 diabetes.

Family members are also invited to attend the program.

Classes are offered weekly for five weeks and kicks off with an orientation session.

Participants meet again three months later for a follow-up session to check progress.

Participants learn how to prepare meals that are healthy, simple, and tasty.

Participants will have the opportunity to help prepare recipes and sample the foods and will also learn up to date information on nutrition, planning, and important diabetes-related medical tests.

A1C, a measure of blood glucose levels and blood pressure will be taken at the orientation session and follow-up class.

Participants are also given incentives such as an exercise DVD, plate method place mat, and a “Dining with Diabetes” cookbook.

There is a cost for the class.
