Coplay Public Library: Coplay Public Library plans storytime, game night, book club

Storytime for the young and young at heart will be held 11 a.m. Jan. 23 and 30 and Feb. 6.

Miss Janice will read first then have a craft project for everyone. The program lasts about one hour.

No preregistration is required.

Call the library at 610-262-7351 with questions.

Come to the library 5-7 p.m. Jan. 27 for game night. Family and friends are welcome.

Challenge our Scrabble experts, or bring your own favorite game. We have some other games available, including Connect 4, Uno, Candyland and Twister.

If you or someone you know is interested in learning chess, let anyone working at the desk know. If there is interest, maybe we can explore this idea.

The library will be closed Feb. 17 for Presidents Day. No fines will be due that day.

We’re starting a book club for adults! Bring friends and family to the first meeting, which will be Feb. 26.

The group will meet 6-6:30 p.m. the last Wednesday of the month.

While many book clubs ask their members to read a specific book, we understand people like to make their own choices on reading material. Our members only need to read a book in a certain category.

For February, we will be talking about mysteries. Before the meeting, read a mystery by any author. You can even choose a nonfiction book with mysterious elements.

If you’re hesitant to come, be assured there will be no pressure. You can come and just listen.

Did you know you can use one library card at 11 Lehigh Valley libraries? Just bring an ID to the library and fill out a registration card - it only takes a few minutes, and there is no charge for first-time cardholders.

Your card will enable you to visit and borrow materials from any of our sister libraries: Whitehall, Catasauqua, Dimmick, Emmaus, Lehighton, Lower Macungie, Palmerton, Parkland, Slatington and Southern Lehigh.

You can also request an item from another library, and the delivery van will bring it to Coplay for you. The van operates Mondays through Saturdays.

We know it’s sometimes hard to use a tablet or e-reader instead of having the comforting feel of a book between your hands. If you want to give e-books or audiobooks a try, use the Overdrive app on your device.

There are many free choices; you just need a current library card.

Learn about Overdrive on the library’s home page, coplaypubliclibrary.org. Click on E-resources, then Libby/Overdrive. You will find instructions using your personal device. The password is the last four digits of the phone number you wrote on your library registration card.

We’re asking for suggestions from anyone for programs, events or classes we could hold to make your lives a little more relaxing and enjoyable. These programs may also help you stay a lifelong learner, a major health recommendation of medical experts.

Stop into the library anytime and speak to a staff member or write your ideas down and leave at the desk.

We accept book donations all year for our book sales and main-floor sales shelves. Check our website and Facebook page for donation guidelines.

We no longer accept VHS tapes, encyclopedias, textbooks, Reader’s Digest condensed books or books that have been damaged by smoke or mildew.

Our winter weather has been mixed so far. While we make every effort to remain open, there will be times when it will be necessary to close the library. The safety of our patrons and staff is important.

Follow us on the WFMZ Stormcenter and our Facebook page for any closings. No fines are charged for any days we are closed or close early.
