LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS

Regional actress Pat Jordan, of the Heritage Theater Guild, will visit the League of Women Voters, as Carrie Chapman Catt, suffragist and founder of the national League of Women Voters.

Jordan will appear in costume as the activist who founded the League to educate and instruct women about the initial right to vote. Catt founded the national League of Women Voters Feb. 14, 1920.

Jordan (as Catt) will address the League at the group’s Hot Topics Luncheon Feb. 10 at the Superior Restaurant in Emmaus. The luncheon begins 11:30 a.m.

The League will celebrate the 100th anniversary of their founding and invites the community to attend as well.

The League was originally founded to instruct and educate women about their impending right to vote, which occurred six months later Aug. 18, 1920, when the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was rati?ed. In addition to the appearance of Carrie Chapman Catt, Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong will present the League of Women Voters with a proclamation of recognition.

The public is welcome. There is a cost for the optional buffet lunch.

Seating is limited. Reservations are required by Feb. 3 and can be made by email at email@lwvlehighcounty.org or by calling 610-432-1456.

If area schools are closed due to inclement weather, the Hot Topics Luncheon will be cancelled.
