An 58-year-old man was taken into custody for attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault and terroristic threats after he allegedly stabbed a woman in the abdomen with a knife after hours at a shopping complex in Lower Macungie Township Jan. 8.
Jonathan Rompilla, of Emmaus, was taken into custody by Pennsylvania State Police Fogelsville troopers. According to court records, bail for Rompilla was denied Jan. 8.
According to a media release from Pennsylvania State Police Fogelsville, troopers responded to the area of 780 N. Krocks Road around 1:23 a.m. for a report of a woman who contacted 911 to report she was stabbed.
The address is listed as the location of Visionworks, an optical retail store, in the Hamilton Crossings outdoor shopping mall in Lower Macungie Township.
Troopers found a 40-year-old female lying near the roadway of Krocks Road. The woman was bleeding from her abdomen. Troopers administered emergency first aid until Macungie EMS medical personnel arrived. The woman was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, by Macungie EMS, according to officials.
Officials described Rompilla as the husband of the woman who was stabbed.

The woman told police she was driving with Rompilla in her Chevrolet Traverse SUV when they got into an argument. The woman stopped the vehicle in the area where police found her, she said.
Rompilla then allegedly stabbed the woman in the abdomen with a knife and fled the area in the woman’s SUV, heading to the Catasauqua area.
Troopers followed the vehicle into Allentown city where police stopped the vehicle.
Rompilla was taken into custody without incident, according to police.
Rompilla was charged with one count each of attempt – criminal homicide, aggravated assault, both felonies, according to court documents and with terroristic threats.
