LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Q. Who are the members of your family: parents, siblings and pets?

A. The members of my family are my parents, Pamela and Terrance, and my older sister, Shannon. I also live with my two cats, Tiger and Lily.

Q. What do you most enjoy about being a senior?

A. As a senior, I enjoy looking back on all the memories and friends I have made throughout my years at Emmaus High School. It’s comforting knowing I have met so many friends that have helped me along this journey through high school. It’s a good feeling when I know I can look back at the last four years and think of so many memories I have made and will always cherish.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject this year is photography because I have always loved taking pictures. It’s been a hobby of mine for a long time, so I decided to take a class on it to learn even more. When I used to take pictures, I didn’t think about the technical aspects of the art. However, by taking this class I now know more of the technicalities and can improve my photo taking. I have also learned more about editing pictures and how to turn a seemingly normal photograph into something that really stands out as unique.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. Over the last three years, I have received the Principal’s Honor Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.8 during my years in high school. I have also won first place three years in a row in Central High School’s music competition when I was in middle school. In high school, I am a part of the Tri-M Music Society for my involvement in band and choir. I don’t compete in Irish dance anymore, but when I used to I made it to the second highest level for competitions. I have also been involved in stage crew since freshman year and last year for the spring musical and this year I am the props head for stage crew.

Q. What are your favorite extracurricular activities?

A. Since I was a freshman I have been involved in the theater department and it is still one of my favorite things to do today. For the school’s plays and musicals, I have been in the props crew for stage crew and it has been an absolute blast. Putting in so much work and dedication to create a final product that everyone can be proud of has been such a gratifying experience. I love being able to contribute to a show that so many people look forward to and enjoy every year. Recently, I also joined flute ensemble, and it has been so fun playing with my fellow flute players. I get to play through pieces with my friends to perform in the band concerts during the year and it is always a source of enjoyment for me. This year, I was also invited to join the yearbook committee and I am very excited to work on it. I get to take pictures, edit and design some of the pages, and collaborate with my peers.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. After high school, I plan on majoring in graphic design and minoring in something that accompanies it well.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. I think my biggest challenge has been trying to balance school work, extracurricular activities, hobbies, friendships and family. However after every year of school, it tends to get easier as I am able to handle all aspects of my life more efficiently.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered as someone who is genuine and someone others can always count on. I’d like people to remember me with fondness and as someone who will always be there for them.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. I admire my parents for always working hard in whatever they do and how they still make time for family. I also admire my sister, who is majoring in physical therapy in college. It has very tough courses within the program, but she is persevering in her academic studies and is still maintaining time for other activities such as dance team and a service fraternity.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. My advice for my peers would be to try whatever you can while you can. High school flies by faster than you think and it never hurts to try new things. My mentality for senior year has been “Why not?” and it has helped me already create new memories I will cherish forever and get involved in even more activities. If you stick with this mindset throughout high school, you will find yourself with so many new friends and opportunities.
