Jan. 8

“S.A.G.E.” Senior Activities for Growth and Enrichment will be held noon to 2 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays Jan. 13, 15, 20, 22, 27 and 29 at Lehigh Valley Active Life, 1633 W. Elm St., Allentown. Instructor Trisha Baker leads an interactive program for mental and physical stimulation and growth for seniors. Activities include word puzzles, trivia, board games, mild chair exercises and other activities to enrich mind, body and spirit. For more information, call 610-437-3700.

Jan. 9

Beginning swing dance 12:45-1:45 p.m. Thursdays through Feb. 27 will be led by Peggy Sue at Lehigh Valley Active Life, 1633 W. Elm St., Allentown. Come and learn some variations of swing dancing. Call 610-437-3700 for fees and registration.

Jan. 11

Antiques Appraisal Day will be held noon to 2 p.m. at Quakertown Farmers Market, 201 Station Road, Quakertown. Ashley King and Jim Meyers, members of the Pennsylvania Antiques Appraisers Association, will appraise items and share interesting historical facts and stories. Appraisals are verbal only, given on a first come, first served basis. There is a charge.

The Lehigh Valley Audubon Society will host its fifth Christmas Bird Count for Kids, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Muhlenberg College. Following a classroom session about birding, citizen science and conservation, CBC4Kids participants will form teams and (under the guidance of LVAS volunteers) conduct bird counts in Allentown’s parks. After an hour of birding, the teams will return to the college to tally up their data, present their discoveries to their peers and input their data into eBird, an online citizen science database. The event always concludes with a tour of Muhlenberg College’s Acopian Center for Ornithology, a museum containing over 2,000 taxidermy-mounted birds from around the world. Participants receive a certificate and a folder containing educational take-home materials relating to birding and conservation. Jan. 13

Computer classes start at Lehigh Valley Active Life, 1633 W. Elm St., Allentown. “Intro to Computers I” is offered 9-10:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays through Jan. 24. The instructor is Richard Mannix. This course provides the student with an idea of the content of Intro to Computers. Handouts, hands-on experiences and instructor in-depth knowledge is provided. Jan. 26

A Red Cross blood drive will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Quakertown Farmers Market, 201 Station Road, Quakertown. The Bloodmobile will be parked outside Entrance #18, near the Garden Center. Feb. 6

The Charles Henry Schaeffer American Legion Post #191 will meet 7 p.m. at Citizen’s Fire Co. #2, 1017 Pennsylvania Ave., Emmaus. The new meeting nights are the first Thursday of the month.

March 28

Free shredder event 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Quakertown Farmers Market, 201 Station Road, Quakertown. Richter Mobile Shredding will be in the north lot, near the Garden Center ready to shred personal documents. Papers should be boxed or bagged and the limit is two large bags or boxes per person.
