The Lower Macungie Board of Commissioners replaced the engineer at its Dec. 5, 2019 meeting. Keystone has been replaced by CKS Engineers.

President Ronald Beitler said the idea of them not working for developers was appealing.

Beitler said Keystone has served the township well for over 40 years.

Commissioner Brian Higgins voted against the change and requested additional improvements.

The 5G Wireless Distributed Antennas is up for its 45-day review after being tabled since Nov. 7, 2019. There are minor changes but it will be re-advertised and up for approval in early 2020.

As preparations are underway for the beginning of the new year with appointments to various boards, several committee members expressed their interest to remain in their present positions.

There were two resignations. Mark Spengler is not seeking reappointment to the public safety commission and Pat Vassilaros is resigning as tax collector. She has recommended her deputy and secretary Lori Walmer take her place. Walmer is a township resident and has passed the Pennsylvania State Tax Collector’s Exam.

The 2020 budget was voted on during the Dec. 19, 2019, meeting. There is no tax increase in this budget but an additional library tax at .25 mills will be included. The library tax was approved during the 2018 election. The homestead program will continue giving some residents tax reductions.

There is an additional amount in the budget marked for land preservation. This will complete the preservation of the Lichtenwalner tract. There is also a large amount included for sewer projects.
