Union Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, is offering the “Healthy Steps for Older Adults” fall prevention program free to the public.
Sponsored by the Lehigh County Office of Aging and Adult Services, Part I will be presented 1-3 p.m. Jan. 21 and 28, 2020.
Call the church at 610-767-6884 by Jan. 7, 2020, to register for the series.
The program is designed to raise awareness while providing guidance to help reduce risk of falling and improve overall health.
Participants will learn exercise and balance training, proper footwear, home safety, what to do if you have a fall, nutrition and talking with one’s doctor.
Part II, “Healthy Steps in Motion,” is scheduled for 1-2 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 4 through April 14.
During these sessions, the group learns the right way to do an exercise routine.
These include a 10-minute warm-up, aerobic activity, balance and strength exercises, and lastly, prolonged cool down and stretching.
Goals of the program include reducing risk of falling, learning new exercises, building strength, increasing flexibility, improving balance, and having fun!
Attend as many sessions as fit into your schedule.
Exercise classes are taught by a certified instructor.
