SALISBURY TOWNSHIP RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE

The Salisbury Township Recreation Advisory Committee met recently for their regular meeting to recap some projects and begin plans for 2020 events.

Committee Chair Mark Wilson, Vice Chair Patrick Jacoby, Francis McCullough and Frank Adamcik were in attendance.

Recreation Director Genny Baillie also attended.

In various reports, Baillie reported the playground equipment has been installed at Devonshire Park. Although the crew tore up the turf, this has been addressed.

In January 2020, the committee will start talking about the township community night. Although the Salisbury Police Department will not be a co-sponsor, they will assist with the event. Baillie said the committee plans to reach out to more sponsors, grow the event and perhaps provide different activities.

Baillie also announced the public works crews were out working on leaf collection. She also announced the egg hunt will be held again in 2020. Although a date has not been chosen, the hunt is usually held around Easter which is April 12, 2020.

Lastly, Baillie announced all bathrooms are closed in the parks for the winter.

In new business, resident Vance Bowers attended the meeting to discuss Devonshire Park.

Bowers, a 33-year resident of Devonshire, said he approached Salisbury commissioners about the lighting in Devonshire. The commissioners called PPL who is in the process of replacing the lights in that community. Bowers said this “provides curb appeal to attract solid property owners.”

Bowers then went on to say Devonshire Park is in need of attention. He said no one has used the tennis courts and the chain link fence is rusty. He said he would like to see a walking trail at Devonshire Park. Bowers said it is a safety factor as he sees people pushing baby carriages in the street. He questioned the committee if there were any grants available to pay for a walking trail.

Bowers also noted the volleyball court pavilion paint is peeling and all of these factors “are not in the best interest of Salisbury.”

Wilson said they are aware of the painting needed which is general maintenance and will be put on a project list for John Andreas, director of public works for the township.

Wilson said the playground equipment was just replaced with natural colors.

Bowers was told people cannot play on the tennis courts because of the condition of the courts.

Baillie said Devonshire Park is on the list to be redone in the near future, including replacing the fencing and resurfacing the court and possibly adding pickle ball.

Wilson told Bowers a master plan was completed to address Laubach Park and Franko Park next.

Bowers was thanked for attending the meeting and raising his concerns.

The Recreation Advisory Committee meets the third Monday of every other month 7:30 p.m. at the Salisbury Township municipal building, 2900 South Pike Ave., Allentown. The next meeting is scheduled Jan. 20, 2020.
