Gockley, Steckel and Zephyr Elementary students are learning ways to protect the environment through Crayola’s Color Cycle program.

The program, being coordinated by art teachers, involves reusing old, dried-up or used markers for clean energy. Instead of throwing those markers into the trash and adding to growing landfills, they are collecting them to send back to Crayola.

Crayola will accept all plastic-bodied marker types of any brand, including permanent markers, dry-erase markers and highlighters.

There is no cost on the school’s part, and the program benefits a greener Earth for us all.

If you’d like to participate in this program and have any old, dried-up or used markers at home, put them in a bag and send them in with your child. There is a collection box in the art rooms. They will then be shipped to Crayola for recycling.

Tutoring is available at Zephyr Elementary School. If you are interested in tutoring for your child, contact Brittany Rabe at 610-871-3671, ext. 1572.

Schedules and fees will be negotiated with the tutor.

WCSD’s trip policy states that educational trips are limited to seven school days per year. Any days missed for travel beyond the seven days of absence will be illegal days if the student’s age is 16 or younger.

The family educational trip request form (available in the school office) must be submitted to the office prior to departure.

The district prefers all trips be scheduled during holiday breaks.

Updating phone numbers on the parent portal is important. WCSD requests all student records be reviewed and/or updated, so the district has accurate contact and medical records.

Instructions were included in a letter sent home in the beginning of the school year that has student/user identification and a password.

Parents can visit the site at update.whitehallcoplay.org.
