Parkland School Board President Lisa Roth and Vice President David Hein were unanimously approved by fellow school directors to continue a second year in their positions.

Roth, a project coordinator at Air Products, joined the board 10 years ago when she was selected to fill the unexpired term of an member who resigned.

Since then, she was successful in 2011, 2015 and 2019 elections.

Roth commented on the vote during the board’s reorganization meeting on Dec. 3.

“I’m very honored to be serving as president for another year,” Roth said.

She also discussed reactions she receives from people outside the area when they learn she is from Parkland.

“We are bench marks around the state,” Roth said. “It’s overwhelming to hear that.

“People’s faces light up when they hear I’m from Parkland.”

Hein, a finance manager at Independence Blue Cross, is starting his seventh year on the board.

Earlier this year, Hein was appointed to a four-year term on the school safety and security committee at the state level through the Pennsylvania Council on Crime and Delinquency.

Recently, Hein took office as vice president of the governing board of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association for a one-year term.

Hein commented on his continuing his position on the Parkland board.

“It’s overwhelming to have this responsibility again,” Hein stated.

He conducted the swearing in ceremony for Roth, Carol Facchiano, who was also re-elected in November, and newcomers Marisa Ziegler and Patrick Foose.

David Kennedy, a 22-year board member, was also a winning candidate in November but was not present at the meeting.

Facchiano said it is a big undertaking representing the community and gave kudos to Roth and Hein for their hard work and commitment to Parkland.

“I appreciate what they do,” Facchiano said.

The school district recently provided a two-hour orientation program for the new board members.

Various administrators were introduced who explained the responsibilities of their departments.

Superintendent Richard Sniscak commented on the program.

“The learning curve is ongoing through the years,” Sniscak said.

Business Manager John Vignone offered his thoughts on school board service.

“It’s a unique experience on the board,” Vignone said. “It’s difficult but can produce good results.”

Vignone, who is also board secretary, announced the newly constituted board membership: Robert Cohen, Carol Facchiano, Patrick Foose, David Hein, David Kennedy, Marie Maritch, Linda Perlman-McKenna, Lisa Roth and Marisa Ziegler.
