Kosher, vegetarian food truck is new at JCC

There is a new addition to the Jewish Community Center at 702 N 22nd St., Allentown.

Parked on the Tilghman Street side of the JCC, there is now a kosher and vegetarian food truck.

The Around the Table Catering Inc. food truck is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays to Thursdays, and it will be open all winter.

Owners Lee and Dror Levi will show hungry visitors the menu and help them make that special selection.

Order and wait for the meal to be prepared or call ahead and have it ready.

There is a patio on the side of the JCC with tables and chairs that can be used, weather permitting.

Kosher, vegetarian and pareve, which means no dairy products and no meat, meals are available.

They are checked every day by the moshgiach who checks out all kosher kitchens to make sure they are following kosher rules.

Rabbi Nisan Andrews of the Sons of Israel Orthodox Synagogue, Allentown, is supervisor of the Lehigh Valley Kashrut Commission.

Before the couple opened the food truck at this site, they had to be licensed by the city of Allentown Health Bureau, and the zoning laws had to be followed, plus Rabbi Andrews had to come to inspect and consult.

All vegetables have to be washed. Any vegetable that cannot be carefully washed, such as the tips of the asparagus, have to be removed.

The most popular items on the menu are the falafel and veggie gyro, the Tofu Shawarma and the Shakshuka platter.

Other selections include french fries and sweet potato fries and weekly specials including Bourekas, a filled filo dough bun, on Mondays and seasonal soups on Tuesdays, Samboosak on Wednesdays, Moroccan Couscous with soup on top on Thursdays and chef’s choice on Sunday.

The Bourekas’ filling is different weekly but there is one filled with sweet and mashed potatoes and another filled with a tofu combination with chili spices that looks like ground meat.
