Christmas Wizards: The Wizards of Winter perform “The Christmas Dream,” 8 p.m. Dec. 20, Penn’s Peak, Jim Thorpe. Doors open at 6 p.m. The Wizards includes former members of The Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Rainbow, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent Band and The Irish Tenors and Broadway. The Wizards of Winter, who hail from the Lehigh Valley, perform an original holiday rock opera based on the music of the group’s self-titled CD and the albums “The Magic of Winter” and “Christmas Dream.” The 12-member ensemble is said to have soaring vocal harmonies, precision string instrumentation, powerful percussion and stunning keyboard work. Christmas jazz: The Eric Mintel Quartet presents “Charlie Brown Holiday Jazz,” 7:30 p.m. Dec. 20, Rodale Community Room, Miller Symphony Hall, Allentown. The “Jazz Upstairs Concert” features Mintel, piano; Nelson Hill, saxophone, flute; Jack Hegy,i bass, and Dave Mohn, drums. The Eric Mintel Quartet (EMQ) performs what is described as “electrifying jazz” for more than 25 years. The EMQ is best known for its performances of compositions by Dave Brubeck and Mintel. Christmas destination: Dave Fry performs at 5 p.m. Dec. 19, Lyric Room, Miller Symphony Hall, Allentown, for “Third Thursday: Destination Arts Downtown Allentown. “Third Thursday” usually includes events at the nearby Allentown Art Museum and Baum School of Art. Fry, a folk musician, co-founded in 1976 the Godfrey Daniels, Bethlehem, folk club, where he was artistic director for 25 years. For the Lyric Room concert, Fry will play acoustic holiday music, blues, country, swing and family music. His most recent CD is “Troubadour.” The concert is free and open to the public.
