Salisbury and Allentown police hold seat belt enforcement detail

A joint four-officer enforcement detail Dec. 4 and 5 resulted in 80 traffic stops and 109 traffic citations.

Officers targeted school zones and contiguous roadways that both departments share. While the enforcement blitz targeted the use of seat belts, nearly half of the stops netted other violations.

Seat belt violations were issued to 58 motorists, 12 were for suspended or non-licensed drivers, three were for driving without insurance and 36 stemmed from other violations. Five vehicles were taken out of service because they were illegal to be operated on the roadways.

Salisbury Police Department Officer Bryan Losagio said, “This department takes seat belt use seriously because their use has proven to save lives. There is no excuse not to wear a seat belt and our department will continue to enforce their use.”

The enforcement detail was funded by a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Buckle Up Pa highway safety program.

Salisbury Police Department Officer Michael Palansky also participated with Losagio in the detail, along with Allentown officers Stephen Rosenberger and Mark Dean.

Losagio said, “Additional future traffic safety details will be taking place and we ask that motorists drive with safety in mind and always buckle up. It could save your life.”
