LVEDC rep visits board meeting

Andrew Kleiner, Director of Community Outreach and Redevelopment, a department of the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Committee, gave a short video presentation to Upper Macungie supervisors at their November meeting.

His department is in charge of marketing assets in the Lehigh Valley and his mission is to remove impediments to redevelopment in the two-county area.

Kleiner plans to visit municipalities in Lehigh and Northampton counties to discuss any problems or issues.

In other matters, residents of Parkland Fields were in attendance at the meeting to discuss their problems with the impervious cover ordinance.

Driveways were paved, expanded or altered leading to an increase in impervious cover on many of the lots.

Residents must conform to the ordinance or seek a variance.

Jeff Graves discussed the ambiguity in the ordinance and would like to have some clarity of the regulations.

Board of Supervisors’ Chairman Jim Brunell suggested they call the contractor and have him find a fix to solve the problem which would eliminate the trip to the zoning hearing board.

Timekeeping software, with two time clocks, will be purchased at a cost not to exceed $25,649.

Total calls for service were 903 with 391 traffic citations issued.

DUI offenses led the list of reported crimes with thefts in second place with 14.

The K-9 corps had one apprehension or surrender and gave one public demonstration.

Total inspections for the motor carrier safety program totaled 20 with 34 violations discovered and 12 citations issued.

The driving enforcement program issued 41 citations issued with the top speed of 84 mph in a 55 mph zone.

Fire company report showed 36 inspections for October. EMS responses for Cetronia were Priority One, 97; Priority Two, 47; and Priority Three, 75.

Emergency responses for the fire companies were Fogelsville, 34; Trexlertown, 44; and Upper Macungie, 37.

Fogelsville fire station has 14 live-in members. The company lost members to retirement or resignation.

Trexlertown gained six members and lost four while Upper Macungie gained six and lost three members.

Permits issued in October were one blasting, 182 building, 10 electrical, eight mechanical, one on-lot septic, four plumbing, one road opening, eight sewer tapping, one sprinkler and 37 zoning.

Permits for new structures included four single family and six single-family attached dwellings.

The zoning hearing board granted variances to Chad and Nicole Hammerly and Guiseppe DiFiore.

The Hammerly appeal concerned the construction of a deck within the drainage/utility easement while the DiFiore appeal pertained to the sign ordinance and placement of two outdoor patio dining areas.
