Players of the Stage

Players of the Stage, a Christian theater group comprised of home-schooled students, presents “The Mouse That Roared” at Living Hope Presbyterian Church, 330 Schantz Road, Lower Macungie Township. The show will run 7 p.m. Dec. 12-14 and 2 p.m. Dec. 14.

Tickets for all performances are free, but reservations are required.

In lieu of a ticket price, a freewill offering will be taken to benefit Allentown Rescue Mission, which meets the needs of homeless and impoverished men in the Lehigh Valley.

Based on Leonard Wibberley’s novel of the same name, and adapted by Christopher Sergel, the play tells the story of a tiny country, the Dutchy of Grand Fenwick, and how its citizens declared and won a war with the United States. The Dutchy of Grand Fenwick declares war after California begins selling wine with pictures of Grand Fenwick castles on the label.

The show is directed by Lindsay McClure, with Maddie Wolfe as assistant director.

McClure said the reason they decided to perform this play was that it was a great time to do another comedy.

Players of the Stage has been raising funds for Allentown Rescue Mission for more than a decade.

“We strongly believe in the work they do,” McClure said. “In 12 seasons, we have raised over $141,000 for them, and we hope to bring that total over $150,000 with this show.”
