Jordan Lutheran celebrates 285 years serving the community

Jordan Lutheran Church, Orefield, recently celebrated its 285th anniversary with a visit from the Rev. Dr. Samuel R. Zeiser, bishop of the North Eastern Pennsylvania Synod.

Following the worship service, members of the congregation and guests from the Allentown Rescue Mission were treated to a meal in fellowship hall.

Brunch included a juice and fresh fruit bar, scrambled eggs, French toast with syrup, bacon, sausage links, country grilled ham, baked macaroni and cheese, frittatas, tuna salad wraps, beverages and dessert.

During the meal, musical entertainment was provided by the trio of Nora Suggs on flute, Rebecca Brown on violin, and David Moulton on cello.

Zeiser told church members at the brunch to remain consistent in their commitment in the face of whatever brings challenges their way.

“Don’t let the challenges override the confidence you have in the risen Jesus Christ,” he said.

Zeiser concluded his message by speaking briefly about the differences between the churches of the 18th, 19th and 20th century to today’s churches, and telling church members they have the capacity to be leaders for congregations of the North Eastern Pennsylvania Synod.

The Macungie Band closed the celebration with a concert.
