Allentown Rescue Mission benefiting from ‘The Mouse That Roared’

Players of the Stage, a Christian theater group comprised of home-schooled students, will present “The Mouse That Roared” at Living Hope Presbyterian Church, 330 Schantz Road, Lower Macungie.

Based on Leonard Wibberley’s novel of the same name, and adapted by Christopher Sergel, the play tells the story of a tiny country, the Dutchy of Grand Fenwick, and how its citizens declared and then won a war against the United States.

The show is being directed by Lindsay McClure and Assistant Director Maddie Wolfe.

McClure stated the reason they were performing this play was it is a great time to present a comedy.

The Dutchy of Grand Fenwick declares war after California begins selling wine with the small country’s label showing castles in Grand Fenwick, McClure said.

Players of the Stage has been raising funds for the Allentown Rescue Mission for more than a decade.

“We strongly believe in the work they do,” McClure said. “In 12 seasons, we have raised over $141,000 for them and we hope to bring that total to over $150,000 with this show.”

“The Mouse That Roared” will be performed 7 p.m. Dec. 5-7 and Dec. 12-14; and at 2 p.m. Dec. 7 and 14.

In lieu of a ticket price, a freewill offering will be taken to benefit the Allentown Rescue Mission, which meets the needs of homeless and impoverished men in the Lehigh Valley.

Reservations, however, are required. For tickets, call 610-310-7604 or email potstickets@gmail.com.
