Students of the Month cited
At the Nov. 6 meeting at Northampton Banquet & Event Center, 1601 Laubach Ave., Northampton Exchange Club held its Service to Youth program, citing four Northampton Area High School seniors as Students of the Month. The recipients were awarded the lamp of knowledge plaque, a certificate of achievement and a pen.
Lena Kugelman, September Girl of the Month; Suhas Yalamarti, September Boy of the Month; Leah McCann, October Girl of the Month; and Jacob Christman, October Boy of the Month, were lauded by the club for their outstanding achievements as students.
Exchange Club President Wayne Mery noted the honorees excel in the classroom with noteworthy academic success and in-school and out-of-school service.
“They are truly deserving,” Mery said.
Below is a list of each student’s activities and achievements.
• Kugelman - National Honor Society (president), girls cross country, orchestra (honors group), GAPP Exchange program, 12-year Girl Scout (gold award candidate and silver and bronze awards), Service to Scouting Award, Union League of Philadelphia Good Citizenship Award and National Liberty Museum TD Bank Young Heroes Award
• Yalamarti - NHS, Distributive Education Clubs of America (president), German Club (president), stage crew, Volunteer Club (food bank coordinator), orchestra, honors orchestra, Drama Club, Scholastic Scrimmage and St. Luke’s junior volunteer
• McCann - NHS, orchestra (president and first chair), honors orchestra (president and first chair), DECA (nationals qualifier), Odyssey of the Mind, Young Peoples Philharmonic and piano and violin lessons
• Christman - NHS, baseball, basketball, DECA, Student Council (representative), Volunteer Club and Northampton basketball camp (adviser and coach)
