Lions Club bingo benefits local charities

The Slatedale-Emerald Lions Club recently sponsored a bingo fundraiser at the Friedens Fire Company.

Fred Folland and John Weremedic proudly told about the many things the Lions Club does with the proceeds of this fundraiser and many others.

Folland said they provide scholarships for Northern Lehigh and Northwestern seniors. The Northern Valley Ambulance Corps benefits. Both the Northern Lehigh and Christ’s Church at Lowhill food pantries are provided with funds.

The major project for many years has been the Center for Vision Loss. Children are tested and told if they need to get further attention for their eyes. For adults there is help for the sight impaired such as cataracts and for the hearing-impaired.

“We help people whenever we can,” Weremedic said.

When needed they will help people get oil for heat and can provide medical equipment. If their club does not have the necessary items they will contact another club until they locate the needed item such as hospital beds or crutches.

Lions Club International and Lions of Pennsylvania benefit. They participate in the Leader Dog program and sponsor a peace poster contest.

In addition to the bingo there is a basket raffle with all prizes donated.

Fred Folland and John Weremedic were happy for the opportunity to tell about the many projects of the Slatedale-Emerald Lions Club.
