COMPEER OF THE LEHIGH VALLEY, Bethlehem, seeks volunteers willing to be a friend to someone in need in Lehigh and Northampton counties. Volunteers are matched with a member who is in stable mental health recovery to spend a minimum of four hours a month engaging in activities they both enjoy (talking, walking, playing cards, etc.). A similar program Compeer Corps is also looking for peer mentors for service members to enhance their self-esteem, reduce dependency, and create a strong/supportive environment. FRIENDS OF JOHNSTON, INC., Bethlehem, seeks volunteers to help decorate for the holidays by putting up lights, making wreaths, garlands and centerpieces. Volunteers are also needed to help with Santa’s breakfast Dec. 15. HOLIDAY HOPE CHESTS need volunteers to donate wrapped shoe boxes filled with age appropriate items for Lehigh Valley’s children in need. Suggested gift lists are provided on the Volunteer Center website. This program, coordinated by the Volunteer Center, is a great project for large/small groups, clubs, classes, families,and individuals.
