The Salibury Township School District operations committee met Nov. 6.

Project bids for upcoming work within the district were discussed.

Director of Facilities Bill Bracket said the lowest bid for the high school cafeteria service doors and ramp was $298,519 by Ondra Huyett.

The high school stadium turf and track replacement received two bids - LandTek came in at $1,389,000 for the base bid and Athletic Fields of America came in at $1,789,000. It was recommended to go with the base bid and alternate #3 to provide a paved javelin runway track for an additional $38,000 with LandTek. It was noted LandTek installed the original turf.

The base colors for the track are terra cotta and black. Athletic Director Monica Deeb and the coaches prefer black. Additional colors are $37,000 more. There was no decision made on color.

The board asked for additional information on the portable play clocks before making a purchase decision.

In other business, Michael Taylor, CPA – chief financial officer/board secretary said the 2020-2021 budget will be presented at the December operations meeting. All adjustments will be reviewed at the January 2020 operations meeting. The preliminary budget will be adopted at the Jan. 22, 2020 meeting.

The proposed final budget will be adopted May 13, 2020 and the final budget adoption June 17, 2020.

Known increases include an increase for special education, education professional salaries, instruction instructional assistance, group insurance, Public School Employees’ Retirement System retirement contribution, Intermediate Unit professional education services, student transportation services and charter school tuition.

Taylor said there is an expiring agreement June 30, 2020 for support personnel, head cooks and confidential secretaries. Health care is expected to increase five percent and dental will increase 2.75 percent.

Director Audrey Frick reviewed the board policy on residence and eligibility of nonresident students.

A resident student who becomes a nonresident during the school term before April 1 may attend school in the district on a tuition basis for the remainder of the school year. Tuition will be charged on a per diem basis from the date of moving and the district will not provide transportation.

Seniors whose parents/guardians move out of the district after the start of the school year must make a written request to the principal to be permitted to complete their senior year in the district. If approved, no tuition will be charged for students who have been enrolled in the district before the start of their freshman year.

The district does not accept tuition students outside of what is outlined in the policy.

The next operations committee meeting will be held 7 p.m. Dec. 4.
