The Friends of the Emmaus Public Library will hold a holiday book sale and reception 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 6 at the library, 11 E. Main St. The event will feature wine, cheese and nonalcoholic punch. St. Ann’s chorus will perform. The sale features an array of pre-enjoyed books at affordable prices in gift-worthy condition. Emmaus will hold its annual Old Fashioned Christmas celebration hosted by the Emmaus Main Street Partners and the Emmaus Public Library 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 7. Events take place on the Triangle, at various historical sites, the library and throughout the downtown.

One of the activities is Candy Cane Lane. Get a free passport at any of the historical sites (the Emmaus Historical Society, 1803 House, Knauss Homestead, Shelter House and library) to follow a trail through the borough to the sites where children can make ornaments to either take home or hang on the children’s tree at the Triangle. The children’s tree lighting will be 4:30 p.m.

Another event is the Holiday Cheers Trail. Local businesses will be offering samples of adult beverages for passport holders (age 21 or older) to sample.

Hausman Fruit Farms will take families on hayrides with Belsnickel, our Pennsylvania Dutch holiday friend. Stop by the Triangle 4 to 7 p.m. for live music, craft vendors and general merriment. The traditional tree lighting will be held 6 p.m. Other activities are photos with Santa by Wesley Works and Emma the Mule name painting. The Emmaus Public Library will celebrate Emmaus’ Old-Fashioned Christmas 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 7 with special story times, crafts and more for readers of all ages. At 2 p.m. the library will be showing the animated feature, “Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch.”

The Emmaus Historical Society, 218 Main St., has many activities planned to celebrate the holidays. Celebrate the holidays 4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 6 at the society. Enjoy refreshments and the exhibits while listening to the St. Ann’s Children’s Choir 4:30 p.m. and the Emmaus Moravian Church Choir with organist Tom Baker 6:30 p.m. The Emmaus Historical Society will participate in Old- Fashioned Christmas in Emmaus 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 7. This includes Candy Cane Lane, Cheers Trail and Bonus Bites.

The Knauss Homestead Preservation Society has some exciting activities planned for the Old Fashioned Christmas celebration. The house at the Knauss Homestead will be decorated in the period of 1777, the year the house was built. From 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 6, the public is invited to visit the house and enjoy wine and cheese while being entertained by Sarajane Williams playing the harp. Williams was taught by Dorothy Knauss, a Knauss descendant. Also the public is invited to stroll the grounds and stop at the barn to see a horse carriage built in 1865 with a lighted Christmas tree.

The Knauss Homestead house will be open noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 7 for children to make their own Christmas tree ornament, which may be placed on the children’s Christmas tree on the Triangle at 4:30 p.m. For information, visit www.theknausshomestead.org.

At the 1803 House, 55 S. Keystone Ave., visitors will enjoy the fire in the open hearth 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 7. The house will be decorated with a Christmas tree adorned with Colonial period decorations and window sill and mantle floral decorations decorated by members of the Emmaus Garden Club. See the scale models by Andre Fatula. There will be ornament crafting for the children, historic gift craft ornaments for sale, a hand decorated wreath sale, warm cider and baked Christmas goodies. The Shelter House, 601 S. Fourth St., will have a Christmas Open House, 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 7. Light refreshments will be provided and Santa Claus plans a visit.

The Emmaus Chorale will hold its winter concert 2 p.m. Dec. 8 at Faith Presbyterian Church, Second and Cherokee streets, Emmaus. Emmaus Borough Council meets 7 p.m. Dec. 2 and 16 in council chambers, 28 S. Fourth St. Budget and finance committee meets 6:45 p.m. before council meetings. The offices will be closed for the holidays, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, 2020.

The Friends of the Emmaus Library are offering an ongoing silent auction on two great packages - a midweek golf package for four with lunch at the Northampton County Club ($600 value) and a wine tasting with lite fare, which includes a bottle of wine and two glasses and a vineyard winery tour at the members only Maple Springs Vineyard in Bechtelsville ($360 value). The library is hosting an opening for Art@EPL 3 to 4 p.m. Dec. 14. This is a new partnership with the Lehigh Art Alliance to bring art alive to the library.
